Authorities have not yet released the name of a driver who died when his pickup collided with a train in Linn County, near Alburnett.

Just before 2pm Sunday (Oct. 2), emergency workers were called to the intersection of Arabian Road and Canadian National Railroad tracks. A pickup towing a flatbed trailer, loaded with a skid steer, was driven into the path of a northbound Canadian National Freight train, and the two collided.

The truck then caught fire from the impact.

The driver, a 44 year old Marion man, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Linn County Sheriff is investigating the accident; they were assisted at the scene by the Alburnett Fire Department, Monroe Township Fire Department, Center Point Ambulance, Lifeguard Air Ambulance, Iowa State Patrol, and Linn County Rescue.
