A case in which five students of an area high school face possible charges for assaulting another student, has changed hands of the prosecuting attorney for a second time.

Five students at South Winneshiek High School could be charged in the recent assault of another South Winn student at the school, and in a separate incident near Fort Atkinson.

Both incidents happened in Winneshiek County, but the case was moved to Howard County because the Winneshiek County Attorney's office had a conflict of interest.

Last week, the Howard County Attorney noted that his office also has a conflict of interest. The case has now been given to the Allamakee County Attorney's Office.

The five students, whose names were not released, face possible assault charges or could be referred to Juvenile Court Services.

South Winneshiek school officials have mounted their own investigation into the 2 incidents. The same student was allegedly assaulted in both alleged assaults.
