Country superstar Alan Jackson has posted a message to his Instagram account to thank fans and friends for their support following the death of his son-in-law, Ben Selecman, who had been married to his oldest daughter, Mattie Jackson, since October of 2017. The post expresses gratitude for the well-wishes from Jackson's supporters, and also offers a few memories of who Selecman was and what the family loved about him.

"It's with grateful hearts that Denise and I want to thank our friends and fans for the outpouring of love and prayers during the hospitalization and ultimate passing of our son in law..." Jackson writes in the caption of his post. "Ben was a Southern boy who loved hunting and fishing and just being outdoors. His childlike enthusiasm for each new day was contagious to everyone around him."

Jackson also added that, as a son-in-law for his daughter, Selecman was everything a parent could hope for. "He was the godly young man that Denise had always prayed for for Mattie," he adds. "Ben we love you. Rest in Peace until we see you again."

Selecman died on Sept. 12 due to a boating-related accident, according to a statement from the Davidson County, Tenn. district attorney's office. A statement from Jackson's team also indicated that Selecman had suffered "severe traumatic head injuries" from a fall. During his life, Selecman served as the assistant district attorney in Davidson County, and the DA's statement added that the office is "thankful every day that Ben had the opportunity to serve the people of Davidson County." He was 28 years old.
