Charges are pending against an Arlington man, in connection with a traffic accident that caused a power outage.

It happened just before 11:30pm Saturday, on Liberty Street in Arlington. A car driven by 40 year old Paul Hines went out of control, struck a utility pole, then rolled. Hines fled the scene on foot, but was later located by Fayette county officers. He was taken by ambulance to the West Union hospital, then transferred to Covenant in Waterloo to be treated for unspecified injuries.

According to the Fayette County sheriff, the accident caused an electrical outage in the city of Arlington.

The car was totaled, and there was damage to the power pole and a mailbox

The accident remains under investigation, and charges are pending. The Iowa State Patrol, Arlington Fire and Ambulance, and Gary's towing assisted the sheriff's office.
