2nd Sex Abuse Trial for Ex-Mayor Set for July in Waverly

The second trial for a former Northeast Iowa mayor, accused of sexually abusing two young girls, has now been set for next month.

Jason Manus was charged in August of 2014 with several counts of sexual abuse, involving two young girls, at his home in Oelwein, in 2010. Manus resigned as Oelwein's mayor shortly after the charges were filed.

In a trial in May, moved to Chickasaw County, the judge proclaimed Manus was deemed "not guilty" of a third degree sexual abuse charge, after a jury became deadlocked.

A second trial, pertaining to a second degree sexual abuse charge involving a girl who was 6-9 years old, has now been scheduled to start Tuesday, July 14th. Another change of venue, approved by a judge earlier this month, has moved the trial to Bremer County District Court in Waverly.

If convicted of the charge, Manus could face up to 25 years in prison.
