Entering week four of the Iowa high school football season, area teams occupy the top three spots in Class-2A in the latest rankings released by the Associated Press on Monday (Sept. 12, 2016).

The third survey of the year features North Fayette Valley as the 2A leader, followed by second-ranked New Hampton and No. 3 La Porte City Union. Waukon is rated seventh.

In all, 12 squads from the Cedar Valley and Northeast Iowa are ranked in the six-class poll. Among them are three eight-player teams: No. 1 Don Bosco, No. 4 AGWSR and No. 6 Turkey Valley, which moved up two spots from No. 8 last week. The ratings create a marquee match-up Friday night (Sept. 16) in Ackley, where the fourth-ranked Cougars host the top-ranked Dons in non-district action.

In Class-A, Gladbrook-Reinbeck remained No. 2 and Hudson made its top-10 debut. Other area teams ranked this week are Denver (Class-1A), West Delaware (Class-3A) and Cedar Falls (Class-4A).
