2014, 2015 High School Football Schedules
When the 2014 high school football season begins in August, Cedar Falls, Waterloo East and Waterloo West will be renewing some old rivalries. Each team will be playing two games against former members of the now-defunct Big Eight Conference. All three teams will also be playing district football for the first time in history.

The Iowa High School Athletic Association recently released the schedules for all 362 football-playing schools in the state, covering the next two seasons. Games will be played at opposite locations, with 2014 home games becoming road games in 2015.
Cedar Falls will renew rivalries against against Ames and Mason City, East faces Marshalltown and Fort Dodge, and West takes on Fort Dodge and Mason City.
The Big Eight Conference disbanded in 1992 when Cedar Falls and both Waterloo schools joined the Mississippi Valley Conference. Fort Dodge, Mason City and Marshalltown became the newest members of an expanded Des Moines Metropolitan Conference, now known as the Central Iowa Metro League.
All three metro-area teams play two other non-district opponents as part of their nine-game schedule. The Cedar Falls Tigers will open their 2014 and 2015 seasons against Iowa City High and they'll also play Urbandale. East faces Des Moines Hoover and Dubuque Hempstead, while West opens against Waverly-Shell Rock also plays Dubuque Senior.
This year, Cedar Falls, Waterloo East, Waterloo West are among the 46 Class-4A teams that will be playing district football for the first time. The Tigers, Trojans, and Wahawks are all assigned to a district that also includes Cedar Rapids Jefferson, Cedar Rapids Kennedy and Linn-Mar of Marion. Each of the six district teams will face each other in games that will count toward the playoffs. The top four district finishers will qualify for the 32-team playoff field.
